An executive is someone who manages people and helps them to get things done. He’s the person who ensures the work is completed. He is someone capable of doing the work himself if need be.
Believe it or not every individual operates in some executive capacity in some arena of their lives. But most often we think of an executive and rightly so, one in a senior authority position in some company or organization.
There are key ingredients that go into making an executive a successful and winning one.
First he must possess good communication skills. Second, he should be able to organize and get things done, either directly or through others. Thus time management and efficiency is an important ability.
But, what you probably already know is, that an executive very often is overburdened with interruptions and thus not able to do his own work or having to do the work of juniors directly. Then there is the case of having to much work and not being able to keep up with it. Lastly, there is the necessity to be in communication with and handle both your juniors and seniors effectively and smoothly with good communication skills
Many times when an executive is unable to get others to get actions completed, he moves in and does them himself. This is a standard function of an executive, but he can be left with doing this job from there on out. Or you get known by others as the person that performs those functions. You of course end up with a overworked executive and a potentially losing proposition.
This is where an Executive Coach can help.
